The Viking bearded axe, or skeggøx, was a common tool and weapon during the Viking Age known for its unique downward-curving blade, or "beard". This design provided a larger cutting surface while keeping the axe's overall mass low, making it lighter and more efficient for both battlefield use and everyday tasks like chopping wood. In combat, the beard allowed warriors to hook enemy shields and weapons, creating opportunities to disarm opponents or deliver devastating blows.
